JALANDHAR, Feb. 22 ( vikas moudgil )-Border Security Forces on Friday seized 1.5 kg of contraband suspected to be heroin from the area of responsibility near the BoP Maboke, Ex-29 Bn BSF in Ferozepur sector.
A spokesperson of the Punjab Frontiers HQ of the BSF here said that under the instructions of Mr. Mahipal Yadav, IG, BSF, the troopers had been keeping a strict vigil on the activities of the anti social elements on the n border. The troopers observed movements of some suspicious persons ahead of Border Security Fence near the BoP Maboke late last night and challenged them. But they did not pay heed to the challenge of the BSF and continued their misadventure following which the troopers opened fire. The suspects ran towards the Pakistani Territory taking the advantage of darkness and undulating ground. During search of the area conducted today, the BSF recovers four packets of heroin weighing 1.540kg. Value of the contraband seized is said to be Rs. 7.70 crore in the international market.
The BSF had seized more than 24 kg of heroin from the Punjab Border till today during the current calendar year having a value of Rs. 120 crore in the international market, the spokespersons added.
